THE MEATBALL SONG
Twenty years after its release, Jamie's “The Meatball Song”, has a cult following for its adept interpretation of vapid and decadent gastrointestinal practices that would become common in the 80’s. James pulls out all the stops with this pitch black comedic song. On the surface, a simple blues tune, he substitutes the “dog” for “America Society” and skewers the America psyche and taste for excess that would pollute our culture in the 80’s and even into the 90’s Clinton era. The song is way ahead of its time. Pretty astute, considering that the song was released in 1982! Look for top performances from James and Bruce swapping a deep delta blues singing style, while Walter and Lester hammer home the two fisted blues guitar attack.

THE MEATBALL SONG

My momma cooked a meatball,
she cooked it way too long.
[Too long, she cooked it way too long]
My momma cooked a meatball,
she cooked it way too long
[Too long, you know she cooked it too long]
My momma cooked a meatball,
she had to feed it to the dog.
[Had to feed it to the dog]

My daddy cooked a pizza,
he cooked it way too long.
[Too long, you know he cooked it too long]
My daddy cooked a pizza,
he cooked it way too long.
[He cooked the pizza way to long]
My daddy cooked a pizza,
he had to feed it to the dog.

[Guitar Solo]

My sister cooked spagetti,
she cooked it way too long.
[Too long, she cooked it too long]
Ya, my sister cooked spaghetti,
she cooked it way too long.
[Too long, she cooked way it too long]
My sister cooked spaghetti,
we had to feed it to the dog.

The next day my dog died
and we wonderer why.
[Oh why did that dog die?]
Ya, the next day my dog done died
and we wonderer why.
[Oh why did that dog die?]
Ya, the next day my dog died
and we all did cry.

We took him to the vet
to find out why he died
[Oh why did our dog die?]
The doctor said he had a meatball
caught in his side.
[Oh no, that's why he died]
My momma cried when she found out
that the meatball made him die.

My momma cooked a meatball,
she cooked it way too long.
[Too long, she cooked it way too long]
My momma cooked a meatball,
she cooked it way too long
[Too long, you know she cooked it too long]
My momma cooked a meatball,
we had to feed it to the cat.
